Identity, Disability, and employment

Advocating for Inclusivity

Disabled individuals, particularly those within the LGBTQ+ community, face substantial employment disparities. With only 19% of disabled individuals employed, there is a critical need to promote inclusion and support intersectional identities. The intersection of disability and LGBTQ+ identity presents unique challenges, especially in employment. With 65% of LGBTQ+ young people with disabilities reporting discrimination, it is vital to implement inclusive practices.

Success Story

“Glenwood Pride was amazing. You did a great job. You do such a great job. She had so much fun and I wanted you to know what an impact you’ve had on her. She’s had quite a bit of trauma in her life, some medical trauma that caused developmental delays when she was younger and some abuse in the family that has resulted in a lot of therapy. On top of all of that I think it’s been hard for her to find friends or feel like she’s part of a community.

One of the symptoms of this is that she can be very anxious about being too far from me, especially at public events. I am happy to report that last night she completely, unequivocally ditched me.

A couple kiddos showed up that she had recently started to get to know through your programs and off they ran. About an hour later she came back, long enough to ask for money and see if it would be okay to get ice cream at Sundae.

Just typical kids doing typical kid things and I honestly did not know when or if I would get to see my kid running around with other kids, so relaxed and having so much fun. Thank you for creating youth programs that she has been able to grow in and meet such supportive people like you and your team. Thank you for creating events that people feel so safe at, that they can just be themselves and have fun. I’m overwhelmed with emotions and gratitude. Thank you!”
